Bakersfield Tenants

did you live in a Bakersfield property managed by Equity Management?

On June 12, 2025, the California Attorney General filed a lawsuit, People v. Nijjar, et al., alleging that Mike Nijjar and related companies — including Equity Management, Inc. — violated California housing laws at residential properties across the state, including in Bakersfield.

Our firm separately represents Bakersfield tenants in Barraza v. MLMZG 14 LP over similar alleged conditions.

If you have lived in a Bakersfield property managed by Equity Management and experienced problems like these, we would like to hear from you.

Why this firm

a matter of public record.

Johnson Injury Law filed Barraza v. MLMZG 14 LP in the Kern County Superior Court in December 2023 — more than a year before the State of California brought its own action against these companies. We have since taken sworn deposition testimony from the companies' corporate representatives and property managers, obtained court orders compelling the production of maintenance records the companies had withheld, and are preparing the case for an August 2026 jury trial. We are committed to holding these landlords accountable — and we believe Bakersfield tenants' experiences matter.

We are also helping get the word out for the State: the California Attorney General is asking harmed tenants to come forward. You can report your experience directly to the Attorney General at oag.ca.gov/report (en español: oag.ca.gov/reportar), or read the Attorney General's announcement.
