Orange County
Anaheim Personal Injury Lawyer
Anaheim is the largest city in Orange County, and on any given day a good share of the people on its streets do not live here. That changes who hit you, who insures them, and how fast the evidence leaves town.
The Resort district
The blocks around Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue put heavy traffic, tour buses, rideshare drop-offs and crowds of people on foot into the same few streets, day and night.
The city's own Resort mobility study found that unsafe speed was the leading cause of collisions in the area, behind 42 percent of them between 2014 and 2018. People on foot were involved in only 6 percent of injury collisions there, but in 31 percent of those that killed or seriously injured someone. When a car hits a pedestrian in the Resort, it is rarely minor.
If that happened to you, read pedestrian accidents. The insurer will very likely say you stepped out without looking, and that argument has answers.
When the other driver is from out of town
Visitors drive rental cars, use rideshare, and go home. That creates problems a local crash does not:
- The at-fault driver may be insured in another state, by a company you have never heard of
- A rental car may carry the renter's own coverage, the rental company's, both, or less than you would hope
- A witness who saw everything may be on a flight home by the weekend
None of that makes a claim weaker. It makes it slower to piece together if nobody starts promptly. If an Uber or Lyft was involved, either as the car that hit you or the car you were in, the insurance depends on what the driver's app was doing at the time. Rideshare accidents explains the periods.
Who writes the report
- City streets — the Anaheim Police Department
- The 5, the 57 and the 91 — the California Highway Patrol
Get the report number at the scene if you can. If not, note the agency, the date and the nearest cross streets or freeway exit.
Where the case would be heard
Anaheim does not have its own civil courthouse. An injury lawsuit from a crash here is heard at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, along with civil cases from the rest of the county. Most cases settle before trial, but that courthouse and the juries drawn there are what an insurer weighs when it decides what a case is worth.
Hospitals
Anaheim has several emergency departments of its own, including Kaiser Permanente's Anaheim Medical Center on La Palma Avenue and West Anaheim Medical Center on West Orange Avenue. The most serious injuries are often taken to a trauma center instead: UCI Medical Center in Orange, the county's only Level I adult trauma center, is a short drive from most of the city.
Wherever you were treated, ask for your records and keep every bill and discharge sheet.
In Spanish, too
A large part of Anaheim speaks Spanish at home. Boyd Johnson speaks Spanish fluently and handles cases in Spanish himself. This page is also in Spanish.
