dog bites

California holds dog owners strictly liable for bite injuries. You don't have to prove the owner was negligent. If their dog bit you, they're responsible.

California's Strict Liability Dog Bite Law

California Civil Code Section 3342 makes dog owners strictly liable for injuries caused by their dog's bite, regardless of the dog's history or the owner's knowledge of aggression. This means you don't need to prove the owner was careless or that the dog had bitten before.

This law applies as long as the bite occurred in a public place or while you were lawfully on private property.
